for everyone

I went to pick up our son Kenshin from school yesterday as I always do but could not find him anywhere. I saw his bag outside his classroom but he was nowhere to be found. Several minutes later I got a call on my cellphone informing me that Ken was at the infirmary because something hit him near his eye. I told them I was already at the campus and that I would proceed there immediately.

When I got to the infirmary, Ken was there with an ice pack over his right eye. I asked the resident doctor what happened and she said the supervisor would relate the whole thing to me.

Anyhow the doctor said that Ken had sustained a small cut right under his right eye but seemed okay otherwise. To be sure though, she advised me to take Ken to an eye doctor. She then handed me an insurance form and told me that I would be reimbursed for all my expenses pertaining to the accident.

The supervisor came in and told me that Ken and some of his classmates were playing with koosh balls at the quadrangle. One of the kids picked up a stone and threw it along with the koosh ball and hit Ken. He told me that the other child's parents would also be duly informed of what had happened.

I took Ken to Dr. Pauline Santiago at St. Luke's Medical Center where she conducted some eye exams. She told us that we were very fortunate that the stone did not hit Ken's eye directly, the jagged edges cut the area underneath less than 1cm away from his eye. It was very close. She prescribed betadine and antibiotic ointment, and filled out the necessary insurance forms that I would return to the school. She also commented that koosh balls should be banned from school because even if the loose rubber edges hit your eye it could still cause lacerations to the cornea.
